These are number one for drying. After harvesting, just clean,
then trim off tough end
where they have been attached to the wood. Lay out
on a screen and let them dry
naturally. There are good in sauces, stir fry
and soup. I dry them and then turn into
a powder for adding as a light
thickener to soup or as a base for homemade spices.
In stir fry you may want
to cut in thin strips, then dry. If you search for recipes, do not
substitute wood ear mushroom recipes with cloud ear mushrooms. Wood ear
mushrooms
are black and have a distinct flavor, unlike cloud ear. There are a
few recipes you can
substitute, however very few.
