The black Walnut tree may grow to a 150 feet.   This nut is very hard and cracking it is a job. The Black Walnut tree may be found throughout Oklahoma.  The husk of  the black walnut after falling starts to turn black.  I always wear gloves when peeling off the husk as doing this without gloves stains your hands. The taste of the black walnut is unique in flavor. The nut meat is small compared to other nuts.

Cracking these nuts I use a large hammer and burlap sacks.  I have seen people drive over these nuts with their cars in order to crack them.  The hull of this nut is used as a dye and as a herbal wormer.  Juglone in the black walnut husk can be toxic in large amounts to animals.

You can use these nut meats much as you would use other nuts.  Grandmother use to make up a leather with fruit and the black walnut, when dried it would keep for months.
